In response to the devastating Tsunami of December 26th, 2004 that altered thousands
of lives, LIFE mobilized it's work force to set up an aggressive collection drive across
Mumbai and Chennai.
Over the next few weeks, LIFE was successful in collecting relief material from
donations that were then distributed in 4 villages, 250 kms away from Chennai on
the Chennai / Mahabalipuram Road.
Food supply was provided for 570 families in 3 villages, for a month. 18 vanfulls of
new clothes and 6 fishing boats were given to Puddinipatnam, a village 200 km from
Chennai.
Besides relief material, 9 medical camps around Chennai were organised and medicines
and First Aid was provided by LIFE Doctors. Click here

The Mumbai floods of 26th July was another opportunity for LIFE to show its support.
LIFE
responded to the appeal made by the BMC to help devastated children from Kurla Municipal
Schools who were refusing to return to schools.
These children had lost all interest in going back to school having lost all their
school books, stationery sets and other necessities, with parents refusing to buy
them new ones.
LIFE provided school bags and school kits to students to encourage
them to go back to schools.
The LIFE Savers from Jaihind College partnered the project named ‘School Chalo’
(Lets go to school) which was carried out after the Monsoon Floods in Mumbai in
July 2005.
The LIFE Savers performed skits for the children in order to rejuvenate their spirits
and encourage them to go back to school. They volunteered for the whole event
through which
LIFE reached out to about 3,000 children and generated a very favorable response
from the schools, children and the officials. It was a ‘relief programme
with a difference’ quoted by the officials.
Our partners in the project were the Rotary Club of Mumbai and LIFE Savers from
Jai hind College.
