Why we do it:
The objective of this program is twofold. First, to create an interest in academics by adopting innovative teaching methods and introducing technology into the classroom. Second, to bring in an aspiration amongst students by communicating what, when and how to study.
What do we do:
Through an MOU with 49 MCGM Secondary Schools, LIFE Trust implements such programmes as Career Counseling, Effective Study Habits, and the Digital Classrooms. We have also organized regular Educational Excursions for students to encourage visual learning. Vacation classes and special coaching sessions are also conducted. Yoga and karate for physical development is conducted in 12 schools.
How do we impact:
The tangible impact of this project is the tremendous increase in the pass rates of 10th STD students in the MCGM secondary schools from 34 % to 72 % within the last four years.
A brief of each of our initiatives under the School Development Project is given

1. Digital Classrooms:
Why we do it:
The objective of the digital class rooms is to support teachers with concise content
and visuals to achieve 100 % results in 8 schools.
What do we do:
We do this with the help of technology. We have provided LCD – DVDs, Screen Speakers
and in house content for Maths, English and Social Studies to 8 BMC Schools namely
Dr Ambedkar School , Prabhadevi School , Abhuydaya Nagar School , G.K Marg School
, Globe Mill School , Dadar Woolen Mill School , Shindewadi School, Sion School
, New Sion School , Nare Park School.
How do we impact:
This project has definitely helped the teacher in creating interest in the subjects
begin taught, saving time and completing the syllabus faster so as to enable revision
and better results.
2. Effective Study Habits:
Why we do it:
To build awareness and teach effective study techniques to the students of the 9th
and 10th standard and to help them reduce exam anxiety and perform better in their examinations.
What do we do:
We conduct group discussion sessions, conducted by a LIFE Coach in a classroom
setting in every BMC school. These sessions are conducted twice a year. Booklets
in Hindi with the content that is used for the discussions are distributed to teachers
and students and kept in the libraries for them to refer to.
How do we impact:
Annually we reach out to over 15,000 students of the 9th and 10th standard in the 49 secondary BMC schools.

3. Learn for Life:
Why we do it:
To help children in MCGM Schools improve their performance in English by teaching them the language in an interesting and easy format.
What do we do:
LIFE Trust has provided 36 TV-DVD`s and a set of 5 CD`s, containing 700 basic words to the schools. We also conduct teacher’s orientation and training programmes and interactive demo sessions so that the teachers are well equipped to train the students effectively.
How do we impact: We reach out to over 4000 students in 10 MCGM Secondary Schools and more than 100 MCGM teachers.
4. The Career Development Project:
Why we do it:
To create awareness amongst students of the 8th, 9th and 10th standard about career
opportunities available to them beyond Standard 10. We call our Project “Ek Chotisi
Asha.”
What do we do:
We conduct workshops through the audio video medium in the 49 BMC schools. These
workshops focus on introducing the students to various skilled and semi-skilled
vocations available to them after the 10th standard.
How do we impact:
Our workshops have reached out to 2309 students in 22 MCGM schools till March 2010
5. Learning Disability Testing and Remediation:
Why we do it:
To provide basic knowledge of computers to aid students in future job prospects
What do we do:
LIFE Trust assigns a computer teacher to teach computer basics like MS Word, Paint and the computer curriculum in MCGM schools.
How do we impact:
We reach out to students of Std. 5-10 in 10 MCGM schools and conduct testing to assure students basic computer understanding
6. Summer Camps:
Why we do it:
To create enthusiasm in 10th students before they begin their final school year. To offer guidance and supplementary learning aids to these students, to help them prepare for and perform well in their board examinations.
What do we do:
This is a project is implemented in two steps. The first step is a summer camp for 10th std. students before they begin the academic year, in which 25% of the portion in completed and the students are briefed through fun activities on the importance of passing their examinations. The second step during the study leave before the board examinations (Shibir), the students are aided by the LIFE Coach on proper study habits and receive a 40+ plus package in each subject that ensure pass marks in the board examination.
How do we impact:
The pass rates of 10th STD students in the MCGM secondary schools from 34 % to 72 % within the last four years.
7. Educational Excursions:
Why we do it:
To increase student’s awareness and enthusiasm in learning.
What do we do:
In keeping with the understanding that children retain best through visual and tactile aids, LIFE Trust organizes educational visits for students of the MCGM schools.
How do we impact:
LIFE Trust has organized visits to the BEST museum, Parle factory and Reserve Bank of India headquarters, Bombay Natural History Society among others.
8. Extracurricular Activities:
Why we do it:
To increase student’s awareness and enthusiasm in learning
What do we do:
In keeping with the understanding that children retain best through visual and tactile aids, LIFE Trust organizes educational visits for students of the MCGM schools.
How do we impact:

Why we do it:

10. Headmaster, teacher and parent interaction:
Why we do it:
To facilitate effective communication between all parties so that LIFE Trust can support MCGM schools effectively. To communicate with parents the importance of education and to create awareness on child health and hygiene.
What do we do:
Through meeting with the Headmasters and teachers LIFE Trust receives feedback and suggestions on the programme. Through meeting with parents we counsel parents on their child’s performance and how it can be enhanced.
How do we impact:
LIFE Trust organizes quarterly meetings with Headmaster and monthly meeting with teachers. We also a quarterly meeting organized with parents.
