Vocational Training (Mumbai / Bangalore):

Why
we do it: The objectives are two fold:

  • To help women and young adults from poor backgrounds achieve their goal of completing higher education.
  • To help women and young adults from poor backgrounds achieve their goal of completing higher education.

What do we do:
Bangalore: A volume of Life Trust’s activities at Bangalore is focused on non-formal education. Vocational training is conducted at the Government Correctional Institutional Campus, under the Women and Child State Department as well as in slum communities in Banashankari and surrounding areas. Additionally, in continuation of our aim to eradicate illiteracy, we have collaborated with the State Directorate of Mass Education to help implement some of their proposed schemes. Apart from vocational courses, a Life skills programme on creating awareness about health and hygiene and related issues has been implemented.

Mumbai: The vocational training activities in Mumbai began in the yesr 2006 with an aim to empower women to be economically independent, aware and to attain social leadership. Subsequent to the formation of Self Help Groups (SHG) within the community and Urban slums, our LIFE coaches conduct need based livelihood courses such as tailoring, beautician, hand embroidery, basic electricity and house wiring, maintenance of domestic appliances, computer training, cooking and many more.

How do we impact: In Bangalore a total of 320 trainees at the Government Correctional Institutional Campus and 180 trainees at the Slum communities in Banashankari have received vocational training. Today, more than 450 children are training under the vocational courses and learning Life skills.

In Mumbai, the vocational training programme reaches out to over 400 women annually and the awareness programme impacts more than 3500 women in the slum communities each year.
